any ice fishing within a few hour drive of Detroit
« on: Feb 17, 2017, 01:25 AM »
Hi everyone I'm going to be in Detroit for the autorama and will have some time to kill. I ice fish every weekend at home but that's in eastern Washington. I would love to bring my gear out and try some new waters butt never being to your state it's proving difficult to research that is I read a good report then look at the map and see its to far away for a day trip. Is see there is a free fishing weekend this weekend with three scheduled events within a 2 hour drive if all fails ice wise maybe there is some shore fishing to be had to pass the time all be in town 21-26 any advise would be greatly appreciated even if it's just leave your auger at home it's not safe thanks in advance for anyone's input

You would have to go to northern part of the lower to find safe ice. They are driving on the ice at Houghton Lake and Lake city which is several hours away from Detroit. I have heard of ice in the Harrison area also

There is a fishing tourney in Mayville MI tomorrow. 2 sessions on Harmon lake.
. There was 8" of ice last weekend & they are still having it. Also one on Murphy lake in Millington MI. It's supposed to be 55 degrees tomorrow.

Thanks slabzilla those are some closer options. I was trying to keep to day trips so my friends wouldn't be without wheels to get to and from the car show each day. The way way the weather looks a rental car might be in their future so I can find some ice.
