Finally a Couple Decent Bass
« on: Jan 16, 2017, 06:49 PM »
I did a bunch of fishing this weekend. I was up in the hills on Friday and then further west on Saturday. There was 8-9 inches on the higher elevation pond on Friday and about 7 saturday. Friday was a mix of slime darts and perch, neither with any size. Saturday we did much better and got some good sized pickerel and 4lber and 3.7lb bass. The two biggest we've got so far this year.

4lber

3.7lber

I took Sunday off and then fished Congamond today. There was 5 inches of black ice which was notable less than the places I fished Friday and Saturday but it was good ice and there were a lot of people out fishing and ice skating. We ended up with 3 bass, two in the high 2s, a dink on the jig rod and we each jigged up more than 30 pan fish but they were all relatively small.

I'm glad I did some fishing closer to home since I think I'll be driving further west for the coming weeks. The forecast doesn't look promising.

Nice work Pat. I find myself getting into jigging more and more especially when I am solo and I can concentrate on the flasher screen.
Being on ice is nice but the tug is the drug.

Toward the end of last year and all of this year I have focused on doing much more jigging.  Me and my fishing buddy usually see who can jig up the most fish regardless of size.  It passes the time when you are waiting for flags and it makes for a heck of a lot more action.  I agree that jigging isn't the most social of activities so when I'm out there with larger groups I typically don't jig or as much.  I fish blind so I'm not staring at a flasher but I usually stare at my rod tip to feel the really light bites.  PS. I also 100% agree with what you told Jim.  That place can be really hot on the jig stick while the flags rarely seem to pop.

Nice work!  I realize in seeing everyone's posts I neglect the bass....might be time to go catch some.

After fishing for about 15-16 hours last weekend chasing pike and not getting a single flag I opted for more easily found species.

Oh man I hear you loud and clear!  Flags up and spool ripping I sometimes forget what it's like...
