Just tested my 8 inch K-Drill today on 5-6 inches of ice. I ran it with the recommended Fuel drill. The entire set-up is light as can be. It drilled holes flawlessly with little to no effort, very clean cut hole too. Drilled about 10 holes and only used 1 quarter of the battery. I even drilled 3 holes in one, making 1 big hole. I previously had a 8 inch Nils with Clam plate and I would say that this is better. So far, so good. I absolutely love the ease of the blade cover as well.

I will 2nd the blade cover being the best design easiest blade cover of any auger I have ever used. Those little rubber bungy type straps are a pain.

You should be really happy with that setup. I almost bought the 8in k drill myself too. Running the 8in nils now and it's worked really well.

How's the 2704 drill with the 8in nils? After my Icegator crapped out, I bought the drill, plate and 6in nils and it cuts just as good as the gator but wondering how it would handle the 8" nils? Thanks!

Milwaukee 2704, 5 amp battery, 8" Nils, 14" of ice.  I drilled 20 holes and had 3 bars left on the battery.

I just purchased an 8" K-drill to go along with my Milwaukee fuel 18 volt hammer drill.  Put it together and took it out to the little frog pond next door.  -5 this morning so I just played with it for a few minutes.  There was almost 24" of ice and it went through that with no problems no issues what so ever.  I drilled 4 holes bang bang bang bang, no slowing down, just very impressive.  I want to thank Sebago Bait shop.  The owner grabbed me as I was leaving and brought me in to show me his setup.  He is running the 8" K-drill with the Milwaukee drill and loves it, he has it mounted to a clam plate/handle and recommended that.  I decided to wait on the clam plate for the time being.  I am headed up to the County this weekend and I figured to try it without it and then decide if the extra weight and cost was worth the convenience of the handles.  Either way a great set up and a great place to buy it, plus Sebago Bait has a ton of other ice fishing stuff as well as lots of bait.  Glad I could buy it locally!

Ok, so I finally got everything assembled and tested it out.  I had a concern.  How much clutch noise from the drill is expected?  I operate the M18 (with K-Drill attached) and release the trigger from high RPM (setting at 1 on Drill) and the clutch makes a ratcheting sound.  Is this normal?  Should I expect this because there is no friction being applied unlike when you drill through the ice?

Thoughts?

thats the electric brake.  normal.

plate is unnecessary with that set up.

never mind I found it aluminum head with heat treated steel heads ALUMINUM DRIVE TUBE  URETHANE POWDER COATEd and COMPOSITE plastic FLIGHTING
yeah I will pass nils will always be a superior product even if I have extra shavings in my holes. Which I have found out I can put my drill in reverse and push the shavings back down.

I own a nils and now a kdrill with the Milwaukee fuel.  Maiden voyage for the Kdrill today.  You can have the nils I am only going to fix it up to dump it.  The Kdrill is the best auger I have ever used hands down.

After hearing all the hype and talk about the Kdrill and picking one up I and a buddy decided to do a test today and found out that we can get a substantial amount more of holes with my 6" Nils than his 6" Kdrill. We used my brand new brushless milwaukee 18v fuel 5ah batteries and with the Nils I cut 20 holes and used 1/4 battery with the Kdrill I drilled 20 holes and used 1/2 battery. This was through 14" of ice. Also noticed that it actually feels like there is more torque on the drill handle and arm using the Kdrill.  Also found that with the Nils it took 4.5 seconds to drill through that 14" of ice and 15 seconds with the Kdrill. I guess this explains why the Nils used less battery. My conclusion is that the Nils is three times faster, less torque on drill and arm, more holes per battery, and leaves more slush in the holes. Kdrill opens old holes with ease, clean hole and no catching.  After doing this test my Kdrill was returned. I guess I will deal with the slush.

I have a 8 inch with a power point which I can open up old holes as well as drill figure eights ,k drill is made with plastic with the promise of lifetime free sharpen. When most nils owner including myself can go multiple seasons before it needs to be sharpened. K drill been out for less then 5 years the jury is still out.

I didn't say the kluge which is made by KECO I said the k drill set up which is specifically designed to run on a cordless drill. Yeah I know you can get an adapter to fit other power augers.

X2 I agree jury is still out. Kdrill blades are made from tool steel they will dull also. How many times will they sharpen them before they require you to buy new blades? It says right in there owners manual they will sharpen them at their discretion. If to damaged or worn down it will require to buy new blades?  I guess I am trying to read between the lines.  I'm sure the price will also go up on their blades. The more people with Kdrills the more people that will need new blades. I also don't understand they say it is specifically designed to run on a cordless drill? Why?  What part of the auger are they talking about?  According to the test I did with the cordless drill they recommend I drilled less holes and used more battery doing it with the Kdrill vs the Nils. I guess to me that means the Kdrill uses more power and puts more torque on the drill?
I guess I am looking at it for the long run. I'm  sticking with Nils for now.
