Vexilar battery.
« on: Dec 23, 2016, 03:55 AM »
Guys with more experience or more battery savvy than I possess may have already known this or it may come off as common sense, but I finally had to replace my Vex battery after 9 years of flawless performance.  I shopped around for the best price.  I run a vex FL-20 ultra pak.  It has a 12v. 9 amp battery.  The prices on line and at several sporting good stores ranged from 38.00-58.00.  I was at the Wal mart and found they sell a game camera battery 12 v. but 7.5 amps.  The price is 22.00.  Same size as the Vex battery but considerably cheaper.  I thought it may work, but wanted to be sure so I called the Vexilar 800 number and spoke to a technician and he stated that the only difference will be a sight decrease in run time on the 7.5 amp vs. the 9 amp.  He thought maybe a day and a half of run time instead of the full 2 days.  He claims that if you just recharged it every night (which I do anyway) there would be no performance issues.  Again, this may make sense to most, but for those in my shoes this year, it may save some moolah!

My FL18 came with a 12v 7amp hr battery and I have no problems with it lasting all day. I charge it after every use also. It is 13 years old now and when I replace it I will buy a 9 amp hr battery. Farm supply stores around here sell the 9 amphr batteries for about $26.

I just checked prices at our local Runnings store. 12v 8 amp hr battery is $24.99 and a 12v 9 amp hr battery is $29.99. They are cheaper on ebay if you buy from there.

My dad sold car batteries for years at his repair shop.  the word back then was that there was only a couple of battery manufacturers out there, they just had seperate labels and some of the cheaper ones weren't made as well.  I have always been taught to not buy the cheapest, but don't get caught up in the branding.  I was concerned about this one being a cheap one, but the Vex tech. told me I would have no issues.  I will check the TSC and Bomgaars before I get the walmart battery though.  Thanks guys!

The Genz pack is manufactured with the 7ah battery.  Shouldn't be a problem as these run the same heads.

Hot Tuna had it right. You should be able to find a 9amp battery for around 22.00.

12v 7ah on ebay 15.99 shipped
2016 date code

That's where I get mine    seller was batteryexpert

the AH is how many hours it will run at 1 amp and 12 volts     before the voltage drops

physical battery sizes usually proportional to the AH

BTW these are the same batteries inside those car Jumper Power Packs ;-)
