Marcum LX3 transducer question
« on: Nov 01, 2016, 10:32 AM »
While constantly thinking about ice now......I remembered having trouble picking up my jigs last year the few times I was out. Messing with gain and zoom didn't seem to help all that much. One thing I noticed is that it doesn't seem that the transducer is hanging level, almost like when it's shooting the sonar off at an angle possibly. Anyone ever have this happen? Maybe they don't always hanging perfectly and I'm just assuming a problem that isn't actually there. ???

I ended up doing the youtube test and found that although the transducer was working I had to turn the gain up to about 8 just to start to get a signal. Ordered a new transducer and hooked it up yesterday, did the same test and was getting a signal with the gain around 3.....guess it was going bad! Side note though I've had the flasher for 10 years now so if you've had yours for awhile I'd look into this!

I believe its more misuse ...plopping it down on a frozen hole ...pulling on the cable.. etc... where things go wrong

Appreciate you asking this question and following up - My units will be going on a test mode this weekend.  Didn't even think about looking at this.

Glad its helping others  it was honestly something I should've checked a few years ago as it didn't seem like the unit was as sharp as in the past...can't wait to test it out!

A little update on this, I finally got to test the new transducer last Friday and the lx3 is like brand new again! Actually picked up both of my jigs, and once again it was sensitive enough that I could tell when I had been cleaned. All while running the gain at 3, compared to 10 on the old transducer and barely picking up a jig at all!
