Ice report
« on: Dec 10, 2016, 08:17 PM »
Hey guys, Happy new year !! Guess you could say I'm kinda recycled here. Just checked out Barbers pond. Ramp area freezing up well, further out was skimming over. Tuff to see it all in the dark.

barbers only 3/4" in front of ramp.  West edge and back northwest wide open. Be starting from scratch after tomorrows rain.  water still warm, lotta steam

Surprised to see Silver Spring all covered up yesterday. Definately worth a check for Saturday  after the chill. Worden's and Tucker's was wide open.

Fished yesterday a bit into CT. Heading down the highway the temps bounced from 7*/9*. We both had visions of solid thick ice and flags galore..NOPE. First pond was just a mess, 2nd pond worse. Heading back to RI. we found a small 100 acre pond, solid 3" and getting thicker by the minute . Iced 9 Larry's,,a few picks and jigged  some decent perch .Quick pick up and off to pond #4 hoping it was good. Arrived to find 2.5 black clean ice. Set up 12 tilts and the eyeball hunt was on. Ended up with 3 short eyes, 1 rainbow,  couple  bass and a bunch of drive bys. Done at 11:30pm.  Great first trip out. Hopefully the ice can handle this week's weather... We shall see. Be safe on your first journey !! FF

Thanks it aways is  !! There's not a ton of ice a round yet. But 3-4" of black ice that we have right now is like concrete. Any more is just a pain in the bass !!

How bad were the roads? I talked to theManDJV and he said pretty bad but clearing up. Sounds like a sloppy mess. Would 4wd be required?

I got out on lake X this morning from 6:30 till noon. The early bite was great. It seemed like the ice was sagging with the weight of the snow on it. Had about four inches around the holes by the time I picked up. Did the guys that fished Wilsons see the same?    Be safe.
