Ice Is Ruined!
« on: Dec 11, 2016, 06:03 PM »
Well this snow and 32-33° temps really messed up the ice today. Went out yesterday and ice was crystal clear and solid. Now we've got iffy ice with 3-4 inches of slush on top. This isn't how I wanted the first ice  to start growing. This is baised off the Valpo chain. Do you think we will still be on safe ice next weekend?! My gear is set up and ready to go!

yeah the snow doesn't help but if it starts with clear ice it will build. Be careful it may still be awhile. With lows near 0 a couple times this week, I'm sure it will come together.

good to melt the snow off, now we need some real cold temps .    to bad it wasn't thicker ice before the snow.
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.

With the snow becoming more slush I think we will be fine when that really cold air gets here. Might even of help.

The ice is not ruined...What ice there was in channels and small ponds was thin enough that this wet heavy snow sunk it and turned the snow to slush. It will freeze, then with the upcoming temps , make 3-4" of good solid clear by the weekend. Some of the main lakes should be locked up as well.
