Outside LED "set-up" lights?
« on: Nov 20, 2016, 08:34 PM »
I'm getting ready to wire my new ice shack.  I primarily fish with tip-ups and tip-downs and I'm considering putting two 12V LED driving / spot lights on the sides of the shack over the windows to shed some light on things for setting up in the pre-dawn darkness and perhaps "look for flags" during night fishing.  I'd be looking for more of a spot light to reach out 100-150'.

Anyone else do this and have any suggestions on lights?

I may be wrong but, it seems a headlight would be a more convenient light option.

Good luck T.      ;)2

I have 2 of these that light up my flag at night.  They are solar LED flood lights, get about 10 hrs on a full charge, and I think they have a switch on them to turn of the feature that turns them on at night automatically. They are bright at 60 lumens, and I think they also have them at 100 lumens.

The Duracell part # for these is  SS8C-P5-PG-W1

They make small lights that go right on the tip up for this very purpose.  When the flag goes, the light starts flashing.  They even have different color lights so you know which tip up went.  Just throwing out an idea.  They are cheap too.

Ok I don't have pictures but the new LED lights for pickups and four-wheelers take little to no power to run on and are bright as heck. I stuck two on my four-wheeler and use a spot light that I can shine through my windows to see my tipups using reflecting tape as the flag. Also, I have light bars inside and light strings inside easy to fallow couture and to tape/fastening it to the hut. The new LED lighting is the way to go. Also as for batteries. You can buy a 12v 50amp batteries. Little bigger than your vexar battery but with such little power the new LED us its worth the purchase. Don't carry a deep cycle battery with you use a smaller one, that can last just as long for a weekend. Less weight and easier to move around, smaller inside compartments. I'll state one more thing. When installing the wiring. put on a 12v cigar female plugin and a 5v USB plug. Both can come in really handy to plug gear in as needed.

Thanks for the feedback guys.  I went with a pair of 20W LED driving lights I found on Amazon.  Hoping they work good.  Also went with interior LED on the inside, two 10" long for general lighting and two LED license plate lights for "hole lights" and one RV exterior "porch light".  Got a unit with a 12v outlet, a USB port and digital volt meter.  Fuse block and a grounding terminal and a 6 switch bank should work.  I bought a 600amp Peak jump starter on sale for $25 at Fleet Farm.  Plan to try to run the lights off the jump starter.  Next year I may install an inverter with full size deep cycle battery but we'll see.  It may take a couple of weeks before I get the parts, finish up hunting, etc but I'll post some pics once I have it wired up.
