X-mas stocking stuffer
« on: Dec 10, 2016, 11:03 AM »
The good wife asked me to pick up my own stocking stuffers. Being the good husband I would like to oblige and help out so the obvious thing to do is to get a bunch of ice fishing lures. This will be the first real ice season in a shack on Nemeiben Lake. I plan on spending lots of time in it.  :)

I've read tons of threads here and my head spins - rattles, flutters, UV, traditional, colours, IR, ...   The question to guys from this area is - what lures work best here?   There are lake trout, jacks, whitefish, walleye and burbot in the lake with walleye and burbot being the fish of interest.

Thanks for any suggestions, AndyJ, ice fishing novice

buckshot rattle spoons in glow u.v, some big tube jigs, williams wablers silver and gold and a few rattle n rap style rigs, the live target brand is awesome.   stuff an insulated round tipup in there and you're set.  merry xmas!

Thanks Ran7ger.  I'm making a list.  Wholesale Sports, Cabelas and FishinHole Tues a.m. when the crowds are thinner.

Hi AndyJ,
This link might help you with a few lures for walleye they should work for the other game fish as well.
http://www.outdoorcanada.ca/the-top-4-lures-for-catching-walleye
There is lot of other good info in the ice fishing section of the outdoor Canada website. @)

In the category of horizontal swimbaits, I would also add the Moonshine lures shiver minnow in the larger sizes.
The IK dominator and bloody nose seem to be 2 colors that produce.

For spoon would also add a few good old Len Thompson spoons in Red / yellow 5 of diamonds, the orange and yellow 5 of diamonds, firetiger and one of the new glow patterns. Some good sizes would be #00, #0
and #1.
Pelican spoons make some good patterns as well like green or brown pike and the yellow walleye.
I would also try a PK flutterfish and PK spoon, in the medium sizes and what ever color you feel matches the hatch.
lots of info on ice shanty about the PK spoons.

I really like the lipless rattle baits for walleye, pike and burbot and rely on them alot of the time to call fish into the area and fire them up.
I have had luck on the golden shiner, and yearling baitball series from live target lures + Rapala clackin raps, Rapala Rippin' raps and the Storm rockin' shad.

For the jigs I also like the Reel bait walleye flasher, and any other jigs that rattle, spin or have some sort of flasher or flipper.
I like something to add extra movement with the currents or when jigged.

Good luck with your purchases and on the ice. ;D

WW

Looks like info from experience there WW.  Rattle is definately a go.  I'll look for the PK lures.  The baitballs are awesome from the pic, and could be mounted in a deep frame suitable for hanging on the wall.  :)  Thanks also for the link.
