Marcum LX-6 in shallow waters
« on: Aug 25, 2016, 08:29 PM »
I'm seriously considering purchasing an LX-6, I have done research and it looks great.  My question is this, here in SE Pa, we fish alot of lakes that are very shallow (5'-10'), is this a problem in this shallow waters?  I did read that in shallow waters its best to use the open water mode. Wandered if anyone else has used a Marcum this shallow?

Yep...run it in open water mode and only have the bottom of the transducer in the water.  I've used mine in less than 5 feet and it works fine this way.  You will have to tinker with the sensitivity a bit to find the sweet spot but once you get the feel for it you'll be set.

They are coming out with a new update and open water move will be gone. It will be replace by gain 1 and gain 2. Also just a note that I don't see posted on here much is reducing your sonar ping rate. Reduce ping rate and run in open water. Should be good to go.
