Staying at a amp on little Averill and was wondering if anyone has ever caught cusk there.

According to the biologists, no.  There are no cusk (burbot) in that watershed.

You'll need to head west and try Seymour, Echo, Willoughby, or Memphramagog for cusk.

BTW, the Connecticut River watershed does have cusk.  Even the small streams just east of the Averills have them.  Weird, huh?

There should be plenty of small, hungry lake trout in Little Averill to keep you busy, though.  Remember, that lake only allows 4 lines and has a 1 fish limit (21" minimum).

Wow, I would be very surprised if there were no cusk in there, since they're in almost every deep glacial lake in northern New England...

Would really like to catch more of those. They are so tasty, but also hard to pin down.
May the fish be with you.

Burbot are ambush predators for the most part
.one needs to drop bait in front of them.they don't
Cruise around much like bass and pike do.

I catch them sometimes in the summer on Champlain, but they don't follow patterns as predictably as other fish do. Some days they'll be near the rocks and other days they'll be on the flats. The only constant is depth- they're always very deep. We're talking 300+ feet down. I'd really like to catch more of them.
May the fish be with you.

Just got back from chasing them in Ferrisburg on Champlain. We caught three nice ones (we call them ling) and a nice walleye. The only ice to be found, was sadly piled up on the shore and a bit coating the bottom of the boat, but it was a good night and the ling are definitely in the shallows (10-15 feet) and definitely ready to take bait.
May the fish be with you.
