Shappell bay runner
« on: Feb 23, 2016, 12:26 PM »
Does anyone have a bay runner or know someone that fished out of one? Was thinking about getting one for my 12 year old son and was looking for feedback. Seems like an awesome idea. Clams are good but on windy days on black ice it seems to be hard to keep the wind out. The bay runner seems like it would be awesome for days like that.

I have one and love it, nothing will beat it for run and gun fishing. Don't even need to take down to move. I pull it with my atv so no need to anchor on windy days. It heats with a candle

Just bought the Bayrunner ll. Have fished out of the Bayrunner, loved it but I fish with a buddy and the Bayrunner is perfect for one person. You can squeeze two in with moderate comfort, but excessive tangling. The ll is huge but pulls easy and sets up easy. As stated in previous reply you can move with it set up.....priceless. I looked at all of them Bayrunner is the best imo.

Any dislikes? I watched a video on it and there were only a few dislikes that seem like it could be modified to fix the problem. Issue with nothing to hold the door from flapping in the wind if its left open. Issue with the seat not having a back. Any and all input will be greatly appreciated.

I modified mine by adding Kayak seats for more support, the flat bench would get a little stiff after a full day. For extra space I removed the front shelf, and built a box there instead for storage. It is a little small for 2 adults, but perfect for my 12yr old and my self for a day of fishing. This year I also put in a carpet floor, and added LED lights and a 12v outlet  hooked to a built in 7AH battery for going smelting, and jigging for cusk. Cant beat it on slushy days or in deep snow. Keeps you up out of the mess and your feet dry. I did have to put weather stripping around the floor hatches to keep water and slush out when pulling it in deep slush.
