Got out last Monday, after hitting Bartons for an hour and working all weekend, and of course I get the call to come into work, but this boy needed a day of fishing! It was a slow day overall, 2 LM and 2 pickeral landed, muffed a few also.
The weird thing is, this pond was wide open water last Monday, skimmed over that night and I checked it on Saturday night, only 3". With temps below zero on Saturday and Sunday, I said I'm going for it. Got there Monday morning and there was 6" of the clearest black ice I have ever seen. I couldn't believe it made that much in 6 days. I could see every stick and leave on the bottom in 8' of water. There was no snow, just all black ice. I figured it would be best to sit on the shoreline because I know they could see me, or my shadow. Didn't even get a flag till 10 am, just when I was going to pick up and move to another lake, first one flew. Ended up sticking it out all day, first trip this year at this place.
