Lost Fisherman
« on: Feb 03, 2006, 05:37 PM »
It looks like we lost a fellow iceangler on Wednesday in Southern Alberta.  Ice is still not thick enough to drive on.

Condolences to the family.

From the local news

Mounties are looking for an elderly man - who may have drowned -- while ice fishing on Lake Newell Wednesday night. A ground search failed to turn up any trace of him. On Thursday -- police did an air search and spotted a pickup truck under water in the southwest corner of Lake Newell - near Pelican Island.

Dang thats too bad, people really need to be aware of whats going on out there on the ice before they attempt to drive!

I am sorry for the family, my prayers are with them.

It has been confirmed that the body of a 71 year old was located underwater a short distance from where the truck went thru.  :(

I wonder how thick the ice was.  Some people say 6 inches is safe to drive on, others say 10 inches is the minumum, some people even say 15 inches.  What do you guys say?  I'll start a new post in regards to this...

The weather and the ice have been real weird in a lot of places this year.Sadly im sure we will here a couple of more stories before the ice fishing season is over.Everyone take extra care this year out there.Saftey should always be the first thing that enters our minds when we venture on to the ice.......not that big trophy fish.
