Do you guys prefer shiners or fatheads for eyes? I'm not fishing for huge walleyes I'm going for numbers

shiners have always gotten the job done for me! Walleye catching is 80% jigging and 20% tipups in my opinion
Life is hard, its harder if youre stupid

I really like shiners...but the walleye like them all IMO.

You have to be more specific on type of shiner. Emerald shiners(shaped like a fathead) or creek shiner (shaped like a shad almost). Both can be bought at bait shops.

Shiners, Suckers, Rainbows & fatheads. I like them all under different situations.

Shiners & Suckers & Rainbows for tip-ups and dead sticks and fatheads for tip-ups/dead sticks plus for pinching the head off and jigging.

I've been using both this year....when targeting eyes, Ive been using the shiners and done well...when targeting crappies, I've been tipping my tip downs with fatheads and still been catching some nice eyes...so know I'm confused.  But I would think that they prefer a bigger meal.

The only problem, if you want to call it a problem, is that Perch will trip your flags when using Fatheads.  It can be a pita if a large school of small Perch move in.

If you're going for numbers (14-18 inchers) use large fatheads.  If you're targeting bigger fish (18+) run shiners.  And take Gourdneck's advice, jig baby jig.  Most of walleye fishing is jigging fish in. I'd recommend setting on the edge of structure and running tip ups at different depths while jigging at the top of said structure.
