Bait in Buffalo
« on: Jan 31, 2018, 10:06 AM »
Let me start with:  I am a huge fan of the bait shop map on the NY page and think whoever put that together deserves a gold star, a thumbs up and a high five.

The question I have is where do the buffalo anglers get their bait for places like SBH?  I always end up bring some with me either from the shop in clarence or the ones down in Machias, franklinville or up in Wilson.

The bait shop on the map at the harbor seems to be closed for the season so I'm curious if everyone else brings their bait in from out and about or if there is a hidden gem that is right around the corner.

100% Bill and Pat are great folks! Once the main supplier to bait shops in the area.
If your near captain Bobs I like Hawk and he has been in the industry since the Caps years and longer.
Also there is another place on Niagara ST. near Rich Products, I don't think their open much in the winter.

A lot of that went over my head I'm afraid.

Are Bill and Pat associated with the Big Catch on Niagara st?
Where is Captain Bobs?

For your needs Bluesnow, Big Catch Bait and Tackle is the closest to the SBH.  I buy my whole Winter quantity of bait in early December from Wholesale Bait 2619 Bobmeyer Road Fairfield, Ohio 45014  1-800-733-2380 at less then half the price you can buy bait at a local bait shop.  Give them a try next year.

That's a good call.  I thought about buying bulk the last couple  years but with the terrible seasons I kind of forgot about it.  The thaws this year are getting me because I always forget to put the bait in the fridge and with the thaws they have been turning black on me as the garage doesn't stay cold enough.

My spikes are turning and I keep them in a frig.   Something different about this year and I don't know why.  Lost a few hundred so far.

The best part is that after years of keeping night crawlers in the fridge I don't think my wife would bat an eye at a jar full of maggots.

Bill and Pat own Big Catch. Hawk owns captain Bobs- all good folks. You can get good bulk prices @ big catch. Grubs can be a pain to keep, plenty of info on line about how and where to store them. Bait pucks are a nice option, get the larger ones they will help to keep em alive to Spring panfish season.
