Homemade Auger Rack/Gear Carrier
« on: Dec 28, 2015, 10:41 AM »
With no snowmobiling to bad had, I decided to make an attempt at a portable auger rack and storage tray for my Ski-Doo Rev.

What I visioned was something that would how all my gear and auger, but be able to easily remove when not in use.

After I found a tray that was designed to go on the back of a car, some old bed frames (man that steel is hard) and Some Kolpin Mounts, this is what I came up with:

And when I don't need it for the ice, it would look like this:

I love to see hear some feedback if anyone sees room for improvement  :)

I'm curious to see how long the black receiver hitch will last with the weight that far back.  Is that bumper made of aluminum or steel?

Looks good. I thought of doing something similar last season but backed out and am still towing a sled. Everyone "customizes" their rides or tote sleds to suite their style of fishing.
Only feedback I would have is that the auger carrier may be a bit high to reach when you're lifting a model 30 and you sink in the snow/slush but your auger mount is way up there. That is one of the reasons why I still pull a sled. Much easier on me to just lay it down in there after each use. If you're a tall young fellow and don't get much snow it probably won't be an issue.
It must be something in the water.

It is aluminium and reinforced with a piece of steel angle iron.  I bought an old bumper for the machine to work on, so if it gets trashed, I will just install the original back on.

Thanks for the feedback.  You make a really good point.  It is still in development, so all feedback is appreciated!

Take it easy until you get used to having that much weight, that far back.  Your sled will handle differently.
Good plan on the spare sled grab handle!
