Frabill Aegis seat options
« on: Jan 03, 2016, 08:17 AM »
I recently purchased a Frabill Aegis 2110 shanty.  It's the model with jump seats and a thermal top.  Real excited to get it on the ice, but it's looking like it's going to be a little while yet here in NY.  Anyway, I tried getting it directly from Frabill with custom seating.  I'm going to use the shelter as a big one man, so I wanted to get one jump seat and one of the padded trunks for the second seat.  The folks at Frabill were very helpful, but informed me that they weren't doing custom orders. Something about a limited supply of parts for this season.  I thought this was as good of a place as any to see if anyone out there has a Frabill hut with trunks and wants to swap a trunk for a jump seat.  The jumps are nice but, I only need one and like the storage option the trunk offers and it offers the second seat of I do have someone with me too. Thanks guys, let me know what's out there.  Located in NY

You should add your location to your profile ....may be a deal near you

Plano makes a sports tub ...in various sizes pretty rugged...Plano/Frabill merged some time back
could add a boat cushion w/some rope and have an extra seat/rescue rope. ;)2

I have the 4 sizes ...nice to keep things organized and dry ...easier to load my unloaded Frabill Adventurer  shelter ..then some tubs loaded with my gear ....

The 56qt appears to be the perfect size to meet my needs. How sturdy are the standard totes?  I see they also make some that they call "marine" totes, but they are about twice the price.  The product description for the marine version says its strong enough to sit or stand on, while the standard doesn't.  I wouldn't mind spending the extra cash on the marine version if the standard isnt tough enough to have a 250lb guy sit on it, but if it will handle the weight, then I'm not going to spend double.  What's your thoughts, considering you already own some?  Tough enough, or upgrade to marine?

dosent frabill sell a replacement jump seat for there 1 mans. I know it will cost you but they should sell them separately.  I could see a big company  not wanting to barter parts, not worth their time or effort.  good luck on your search.

I contacted Frabill and they won't sell replacement seats right now.  The rep said probably by next season.  I have the jump seats and want a trunk.  I think I'm going to take hard water diehards advice and get a Plano tote

Do you have a link to the marine tote . I think marine tote may just have a gasket . The video on the link I provided shows a man stepping  on it ....I checked the lid on mine seems sturdy enough ....besides the tote another option ...which I have added to my Adventurer to replace the tri pod seats(painful) is a sports chair

their are several companies/retailers that make them ...will cut down on the weight...fold up nice ...comfortable

How far a trek is it to a Bass Pro / Gander up your way ...they may have one you can tire kick if your hesitant .

I'll probably go with the standard.  It's not going to be used as a seat regularly, I mostly want the contained storage for some odds and ends that come on the ice with me.  Tools, extra propane, first aid, line, etc.  I'm sure it will hold up to being used as a seat occasionally.  In the event that I need a second seat, and it's not quite tough enough, a 5 gallon pail has always been sufficient. thanks for the input!

Get a 6 or 7 gallon pail ...taller is better for seating ...I have been trying to get away from the bucket for some time ...totes...bags etc ...but so many neat add ons for buckets I use  a 3 gallon ...and a crappie caddy as my table as well as a Frabill Sit n Stow ...rod holders ...still use a bucket as my out of shelter hole hopping seat

I have a clam chair for out of hut/hole hopping.  It's great for quick trips too.  Can pack all "necessities" in it and it has backpack straps.  Great backup or alternative seat option, but doesn't sit real stable in the bottom of a sled.  Frabill sit and spin seat on a 6 gal bucket has treated me well in the past also.
