Barometers
« on: Dec 24, 2015, 07:01 AM »
I just got a barometer to  help with predicting when is the best time to go fishing. Are other people using a barometer. A slightly falling pressure seems to be the best time to go fishing.

I inherited my great grandpa's fishing barometer that has when its good or poor fishing and I'll be damned if its spot on when we catch a few versus limiting out. Just a side note there is no 'bad' day of fishing

As someone who makes a living catching Lake Trout (and others) I can assure you, if you aren't paying attention to the barometer, you are missing one of the key indicators of how, where and when to fish...some great articles out there including THIS one...http://www.outdoorweekend.net/Articles-i-2009-07-01-196967.112113_Easytounderstand_barometric_pressure_and_impact_on_fishing.html

If I\'m not fishing, I\'m probably thinking about fishing...And if I\'m thinking about fishing, I\'m probably not getting much else done so, I might as well go fishing...Yeah, I just said that!

I know from personal experience that when you can see a storm rolling across the ice at you the Mac bite will pick up like crazy.  I love fishing in pre-storm or beginning storm conditions for the most action. The great Montana weather change that happens every 15 minutes helps as well. It also seems as though the quality of fish will increase as the quality of weather decreases. Just my .02!

From what I know as a fishing guide for trout, when the Barometer starts to drop the trout fishing gets awesome.  As for ice fishing for perch, I like a steady barometer and sunny conditions.
