Just got a lowrance ice machine
« on: Dec 17, 2015, 10:25 AM »
I just picked up a lowrance elite 4x chirp ice machine (and using the rebate for the boat transducer) to use this year instead of relying my vex sonarphone and/or hummingbird portable fishing buddy. Those worked for me last year, but the sonarphone drains my phone battery and the fishin buddys screen is a bit slow in the cold. plus when the ice gets thick there's no way around the interference at the surface. I can't wait to start using it this year, once we get some ice...  In the mean time, anyone have tips as to managing the long power cords and transducer cable?  I already figured I can just attach the foam float to the transducer cable instead of using the silly depth adjustment cord, but where do you wrap all the loose cables so that it doesn't become a tangled mess?

Did you get the version that comes with the blue carrying case?  If so, there are posts on either side of the shelf where you mount the display, just wrap the excess cord around those posts.  Also, I would get rid of the extra cord on the transducer and the foam float too, no need for either, just unwind the necessary length of cable and drop the transducer down the hole do it sits a few inches below the bottom of the ice.

Just use a twist tie or zip tie for the power cord. I put the transducer and cord under the base that the unit sits on.

You mean where the little tackle boxes go?  I though of that but I was hoping to keep those there.

However you route it, make sure the transducer cable has no sharp bends.

I put the transducer to the side of where the tackle boxes go and the cable in front.

Thanks for the tips.  I just wanted to avoid dealing with a mess of wires every time I go to use it or move from spot to spot. It's got a ton more features than the little fishin buddy, and more than the sonarphone too. I can't wait till I can start using it and playing with the different settings. Only thing I don't like about the settings (or haven't figured out) is that I have to go threw menus to get to the sensitivity/gain levels.
