Thoughts on the Fenwick Elite Tech 36in
« on: Dec 09, 2015, 04:27 PM »
I currently have the Fenwick elite tech in the 27 inch Medium. I have used this for tongue the past few years and it just doesn't seem to have enough backbone for me. I want to upgrade to the 36in in either M or MH. I have seen both and played with them, but wondering which will preform the best for lakers (M or MH). A lot of the togue I get are def not trophies so I don't need a pool cue rod.

The medium had quite a bit of flex at the tip and nice backbone further back, while the MH has a stiffer tip and about the same backbone near the handle. More of an arc to the rod when under pressure rather than the tip doing most the bending. Does anyone have experience with these rods to know how they preform in the field? Recommendations? Just don't want to buy twice. Thanks!

Try the 28" medium action st croix premier.  Plenty of backbone but still light and sensitive.   I used this one a lot on sebago last year and it was great.  They also make 32" and 36" models if you want a longer rod.

What size jigs and what size hooks do you usually use.  The lighter rods work great for lighter jigs with thinner wire hooks, but you might need something stiffer to get a good hookset if you are using airplane jigs or bucktails with heavier wire hooks.

I don't really use anything over 1/2 oz. usually 3/8 with swim bait, tubes,  spoons, and a few jig raps but those don't weigh too much.

It's brownish. The new ones I looked at are green.

Mackinaw 36 MH Bait Cast for Lakers. Also have a M St. Croix with an inline that works very well on my IH Nor'easter.
