Will the colder temp take hold
« on: Jan 23, 2006, 09:30 PM »
With the frezing temps returning at night, will the snow cover hinder ice development? I am truly tired of waitng things out. Being from the Albany area I can be up north within an hour, but have some favorite waters nearby I am dying to fish. Not to mention the convenience factor do you think the upcoming weekend holds promise for the lower elevations?

not to sure, the snow on top of all the weak ice and covering all the broken shorelines. Unless we stay in the 20's and teens at night, will the lower elevations freeze back up.
Sux, but it looks like mother nature is holding out on us this year, that is unless she plans on a longer winter than others, cause with the temps it is fall time all over.
In need for the mercury to drop.  ;D

I think we are going to start seeing colder and colder temps returning. The long range forecast does not call for too much mild weather. We never broke out of the 30's here today in Cooperstown.

Snow will insulate it and slow down the freezing.
How's the ice

Our lakes and resevoirs in Madison County are all fishable, but the 1-3 foot gap is the only deterent. We are all about locked up again for the third time this year. I was out yesterday for the late afternoon into night for slabs, and was drilling through 12-14 inches of SOLID ice. I always keep 2 6 ft. 2/12's in the Jeep. I usually don't have to do that until late March :D
