Evergreen Lake Saugeye Limit
« on: Mar 12, 2015, 09:16 AM »
Has anyone seen the new length minimum for Evergreen Lake for Saugeye? It is now 18 inches. Has anyone caught one over 18 there? Also isn't it true that saugeye grow smaller than normal walleye? Last year when I fished there I did not find anything over 15 inches, and the limit then was 14 in. Just wondering what people's thoughts are on this.

The reason for the higher length limit and only 3 per day is because of all the small fish.  These fish need to be left alone to grow up to larger sizes.

It's been a couple years since I fished Evergreen, but a few years ago I had some success catching bigger saugeyes. I don't have a boat and didn't back then either, so when I say success I mean I caught a handful over the course of a month or so that were 18+ from shore.

That's good to know that they are in there then! Glad they are trying to improve the population. I know they used to have a size limit on the crappie and it helped produce bigger fish.
