This may be a little off topic but I'm sure you Oneida Lake guys can answer my question. Isn't there someone on the lake who will drop you and your gear off in the am and come get you in the pm. I'm sure someone told me about this service but I can't remember who or when (it's tough getting old). Any info is appreciated.
Thanks

PB,
I believe that was Apps landing up on the north shore, not sure if they still do that. I heard last year that they were out of business. You might try calling Marion Manor down on the east end, I think they told me last year they were going to get into that sort of thing.

hey guys i'm new here but I pretty much live on bb in the winter
there is another access that is owned by the town of west monroe
you park at the mini storage like normal but instead of walking down past the bar take a right out the lot
walk to the end of the road there is a small walkway between some tree's just the other side
is the access it's large and is a small inconvienience but using it should keep the peace and maby get our
other access back

as far as the trash I pick up sled load's each year and boy do's that tork me
the only way it's going to stop is if we police ourselves
believe me if I see you littering i'm going to speak up and we all should too

anyway thought i'd chip in with my 2 cents
looking forward to a great season

p.s. dec won't know anything it's all town controled

top

Thank you for the info! I will try it out next time.

Scottcny & crappiedaddie,
Thank you both for the Oneida Lake info. I'll be sure to contact you when I'm ready for a trip there. I've never fished it so I'd like to go with someone who has.

I still plan on contacting the DEC guy this Thursday as he is supposed to be in.  I will post whatever it is that I find.

I'm also going to give the town of West Monroe a call as well.  Not that I have any reason to doubt topwater81, but I just want to be able to give the trooper some contact info should he swing by there with any complaints.

topwater81,

Have you heard of anyone getting on Big Bay as of yet?  I can get away for a few hours on Thursday morning and that is it for me until next week, so I need to get out for a few hours... I don't know if I should go north to Big Bay or East to some of the Madison county reservoirs.  All I know is that my thermometer here in liverpool is currently reading -5 at 10:50 p.m. (according to the weather channel, it is almost -20 in watertown) so something has to be ready to go by Thursday morning.  I can't take too much more waiting around.

Also, I should add for those that haven't been looking at the forecast... It is looking more and more like we are going to get hammered with snow from that storm that is currently in the midwest on Thursday night into friday, with the lake effect churning up after the actual storm moves through.  It woulnd't be CNY any other way.

My brother used to live in the Bay , and there are "right's of ways" set-up there in different locations so that the "homeowners" in the neighborhood can access the Bay / Lake . So many households per access , I believe it was , we used to access the Bay down the street from the Lake Fish Co. years ago , it was a different access point then what you all are talking about . It was more in the back of the Bay then out near the Bar , more at the end of Camic rd , down the street on the left , I don't remeber a road off the one going to the bar. When accessed from the  point mentioned are you immediately in the Bay or do you have to walk around a point ? Haven't been out there in years !! ;D

what other Bar is there ? only the Bar/Marina , that's where there's a right of way (for home onwers only) also , right in the back of that Bay(small one) down the driveway of that log cabin . I used to keep a row boat on shore and take off in the summer from there , don't know it's name but I'm sure there are fish in there(spring & summer) , not very deep . Better all year fishin' in Big Bay . ;D

Back in the late 70's and early 80's ,we'd all park at the Lake fish company and walk a short distance down the street from there right onto the back side of the Bay . But that's when everyone behaved and respect and appreciated the opportunities that were presented to them . LIke I tell my kids it's not a rite , it's a privelege , things can be taken away from you because of something you did or someone else that quick . I'd like to go back this year , haven't fished the Bay in a few years , been fishing the main Lake , I hope that one person didn't ruin it for the rest of us . If not I'll wait til the ice is thick enough to get out from the Bar with my sled . Peace !!!

I posed the access question on the Oneida thread on the reports board and apperantly everyone is using the access by the bar, so it looks like business as usal.

Wayne,
I'll try with the directions, 81 south to Bartell rd. exit, just over the bridge, take a right off the ramp, follow that to the light, it's a T intersection, that's Rt 11, go right. Rt. 11 will take you back over the river and just on the other side take a right, don't know street name, it's at a light and there's a conveniance store on corner, follow that rd. around the bend and look for Camic rd on your right, follow that to the parking area, there's a big sign and a little box to put you $3 in. There's always people in and out so from there you can find the water.

You should be confused.  I got through to the DEC and the Town of West Monroe.  None of the various access points are truly public owned.  So, I guess we just keep getting on at the normal spots.  We are going to have to be better at policing ourselves... we need to keep it clean and try to refrain from ripping out the docks of the homeowners.

Hey, Toes,
My father in law has a camp right around the corner from you, at the end of Hamilton-Brown. Catch a lot of walleyes in Billington in the spring, does anybody ice fish the bay??
Scottcny, sory i didn't reply. I never checked back on the thread.  Billingtons usualy is empty, or 1-2 guys. It's all private shoreline and  far away from public access so you have to ride to get there. I usualy would hit the busier places where you've got enough guys around so I can find the fish. Poking holes all by myself takes alot of moving to find fish. I walk and hand drill so it's easier to fish by Brewerton.
