Back in February I went to Clarion, PA to visit a few old friends from my college days. They had never gone ice fishing before so we were all really excited to get together, have a few beers, cook some steaks AND get to go ice fishing.... That Friday night we were hanging out and figured we would go for a walk ( my buddy lives out in a cabin ), It was extra fun because there was about 2 feet of snow and we got around by using trails the deer had packed down, the trails were really prominent from 6 deer that stayed close to the camp and ate his chicken feed. We made it out to a small stream behind his house and were checking out the stars because it was a crystal clear night. Now, what I didn't mention is that it was -19 degrees out! how cold is -19? it was so cold that my beer that I had been drinking inside the camp and took with me on the walk... FROZE. that's right, I went to take a drink and it was frozen solid!
Saturday we woke up, although a little later than we wanted to, but, come on I was with college friends ..... went out to a Lake ( I won't say where, what spot, what we caught or if we kept the fish for fear that this will turn into another topic you might have recently read about LOL!!! ) JK it was Kahle and we didn't catch a thing all day...
On the way home we stopped at a local sporting goods store and when we walked in there they were, 1 and 4 lb. exploding targets.
We picked up three of the 1 pounders and one 4 pounder. This was another first for us, because none of us had used these things before.. what you have to do is place them somewhere and shoot them with a high powered rifle from about 75 yards away. The first two 1 pounders we put in root ball of fallen over tree's.. pretty darn cool!! Now it was time for the 4 lb...
We posted up out on the small stream behind the camp and brought along a snow shovel and my hang auger... knowing where there was nice deep spot we walked out and drilled through, there was a good 10 inches of ice… so we drilled another hole down into the ice about 4 or 5 inches, set the 4 lb explosive in the hole and started to pack snow all behind and on top of it... next we got in position from a good vantage point on the bank where we could shoot down hill a bit and let her do what she was born to do.... KABOOOOOOOOMMMM a mushroom cloud went up and further inspection would show that you could throw your kitchen table through the hole that bomb made..
Good times!
