Bean Boots
« on: Mar 02, 2015, 12:53 PM »
Just finally ripped an old pair of boots after a good 10 years of hard use. Looking to get a new pair of bean boots but torn between the Maine Pac Boot and the Technical Big Game Boot. Any suggestions?

Thanks!!

Josh

If the lower ripped, Bean's will put new rubbers on your leather upper for around $30.

I replaced an old pair of ll bean pac boots with the current model two or three years ago, and have been very happy with them.  Treads are a big improvement over the old chain link type soles.  I do tend to get a fair amount of condensation from my sweaty feet, but I think that's unavoidable with waterproof boots. Make sure you buy them big enough for a couple of pairs of wool socks.  So far I've fished in them down to 15 below with no shelter and I haven't been cold yet.

 Buy em and try em.
May God bless and keep you always, may your wishes all come true.
May you always do for others and let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars and climb on every rung,
May your hands always be busy, may your feet always be swift.
May you have a strong foundation when the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful, may your songs always be sung.
May you stay forever young.

I have a pair of the LL Bean Old Pac boots. I love them. the sole gets you up off the ice. they are a bit on the heavy side but have never had cold feet. I replaced the liners a few years back and got the liners that wick the moisture away from your feet. I put them on the boot dryer over night and they are ready to go in the morning

Get the Technical Big Game boots. The footbed gives much better support so you will be more comfortable and less tired after being on your feet all day. They lace to the toe for a better fit and the BOA makes it easy to make adjustments with gloves and no laces to come untied. The Gore-tex liner will keep your feet dryer than pac boots. They are not as heavily insulated as the pacs but will be warm enough down to the -20s. Don't overdo the socks. One pair of wool blend socks with or without a very thin wicking liner sock is all you need. The boots should fit your feet, not your feet plus multiple socks. I work on the snow at a ski resort and have tried different boots over the years. I bought something similar to those boots this year and it has been a huge improvement over any rubber bottom pac boots I have ever owned.

Shrink- the trolls were for your thoughtful response  :)

9huskies- thanks a lot! That's great to know. I was leaning that way, but I think that seals the deal.
