What to use for stripers through the ice?

What do you guys recommend for catching stripers through the ice?  Will they go for shiners or dead bait like pike?

1/8 Oz diamond jig or small castmaster work for me.

I've gotten all of mine on small or med shiners on tip ups rigged for crappie and perch. 8' of 10# mono to a size 6 hook 2-3 feet off bottom.

I've seen stripers caught on shiners at o'sullivans cove in yrs past but not sure what size the shiners were. On saturday, there were at least 40 tips out with shiners and no stripers were biting. Caught mine on a little jig.
