Nice to get out!
« on: Jan 13, 2015, 06:37 PM »
Lil G and I ventured out to fish for the first time this season.  Had a great time and caught some nice gills, all went back in for next time!  We were told about this place, and are keeping the name/location quiet.  Hope everyone else who got out had a great day!   :icefish:

We have a date with some trout at Hunters tomorrow, (Thursday morning), and we will be out at Montour on Sunday, weather permitting of course.

Today was the fourth time out in 8 days.  We have been having a ball.  We were at our new hot spot today and were slammin' the gills.  :icefish:   We also caught large mouth bass, crappie, golden shiners and a fall fish.  I think we have caught more fish in the last 8 days than we did all last ice season, and we were really happy with last season!!  We plan on hitting a few different spots next week, then get ready for the "Spud" Memorial!!!  Looking forward to getting together with all our ice fishing buddies at that great event!!!

Nice to get out again today!!!  Fish were reluctant to bite,  but we did manage a few nice gills.  Met WCO Kyler today.  We were the only ones on the lake and he came out to check our licences.  We had a nice chat with him for about 15 minutes.  It's really nice to meet some of these younger WCO's.  WCO Kyler was very friendly.  It was like chatting with an old friend!  We talked about ice safety, what we've been catching and crazy things we have seen happen on the ice.  I still can't believe the chances people will take to get on the ice early, or to get "just one last trip out".  Anyhow, we had another pleasant experience with a WCO!

No, we have only been there once this season.  Been fishing around, checking out some new to us ice and having fun.  We punched a ton of holes that day at Montour and got the skunk.  Left there and caught 81 fish in 2 hours at the new place we've been going too.

We will not be going to "The Spud" memorial this year.  I know that I posted that we would be attending again this year, but instead of it being a derby type fishing event, the Northeast Panfish League now has it as a tournament stop.  They have taken something that should be more of a get together to have some fun, and to more importantly, remember Fred.

Got out again today!  Been a really good ice season so far.  We added some more gills to the season total!  I thought the bite might have been a little better with the front moving in,  but we may have gotten out after the barometric pressure had already bottomed out.  Still, it was a good time out with my son!

Yeah, I fished Chilli today, 15 tip-ups, 7 hours, no flags. I'm never going there again. And I actually tried to express my opinion on how tournaments take something special out of ice fishing, but the thin skinned crybabies jumped all over me for that so be careful about posting your opinion on here about that. Tourny people cry too easily.

Got out again today with my son, gfisher95 and my dear old friend Chuck, aka Walleye2009.  Had a great day catching gills and bass today!  Once again at our new favorite ice fishing haunt that will remain unnamed.  So far in a few trips out there this season, the three of us have combined for over 200 fish.  Gills, perch, crappie, largemouth bass, golden shiners and a fallfish have all fallen victim to our tactics!  We are also proud to say that ALL fish have gone back to fight another day.  Let us all hope that we do not get all the snow they say is coming this week.  I would hate to lose a good season over a ton of snow on the ice.  We stopped out at Halfway Dam the other day.  Three inches of slush on the ice under 10- 12 inches of snow.  8 inches of good clear ice was not holding the weight well.  Popped a hole in the ice and the water came gushing up.  Had 2-3 inches of water on top of the ice.  Just no fun trying to fish like that.   >:(  So please snow go away, upon the ice we still want to play! :icefish:

Got out again today and had a great time with my ice fishing regulars, gfisher95 and walleye2009.  Once again we started off at Montour.  Lake was a mess to go out on.  It looked good from shore, but there is a ton of slush under a thin crust.  Made for a miserable walk out to find a solid place to try our luck.  We marked some fish on the flashers, had a couple of really light bites, and I had one flag that was a short run and drop.  We finally decided to bag Montour and go have some real fun at our favorite new hot spot.  The bluegills were a bit sluggish today, but we managed to show a fair number the top of the ice.  All went back to fight for another day!  We also caught another specie in this productive piece of water.  Gfisher95 caught two nice pickeral on tip ups today.  We had been told that they were in there, but we don't believe until we put some topside.  That makes 7 species we've taken at this place!  All in all, it was just nice to get out again!

Out again today at our favorite hot spot.  The blue bird skies had the fish a little sluggish, but once again we managed to show some gills the topside of the ice as well as a couple of large mouth bass on tip ups.  Another great day to be out with my son, gfisher95!  Hopefully on Thursday we will be hitting Hunters again for another date with some trout!!!   :icefish:

You should share this top secret spot with a guy that's been getting skunked at the Montour Preserve too.  Been out 6-7 times with no fish to show for.  I'm only half kidding with this post!
