With all the views & only 3 responses I take it that these are not very popular units, & the responses did confirm what I was afraid of with the units & will have to look at other options.
i wouldn't judge a unit by how you started a topic.
topic only says "Marcum LX 6/7 owners?"
if your topic was your question, then you would have had less lookers wanting to know if they could help you, like a few of us took the time to try to do. my answer stands firm, but you over looked it.
many do view topics just because they are curious and some don't care to say one word to try to help. they are called "lurkers". so now that you know that, then the question becomes how many lurkers versus lx-6/7 owners, lx6/7 owners who have worn sunglasses and had a hard time viewing could honestly answer your question. i only read the ones i think i might be able to help with.
to be honest, i haven't been fishing out of my shack to where i need sunglasses. too cold, too windy, too dark, too over cast, since i bought my lx-7. when i did take a look because my buddy said he could hardly see mine, i used his glasses and looked and it was harder to see as it should be, i removed the snow/rain shield and i could see it much better. the shield was throwing some weird color into the view. also, i did not crank up the display back light so he could see it and it would have been half way up or 50% brightness. so it would have been easier to view.
also, i said my other sonar is hard to view with sunglasses's and its a fiber optical 6 color display. the brightest there is. so if you use what little help you did get, you won't be buying any sonar!
to be fair, sunglasses come in many shades/colors and how much tint is used ect., so how much harder some thing becomes to view would depend on how dark your tint is on your face.
after all, that is why you put them on in the first place is to alter light.
to me thats not important at all, if the sun is on the display makes it much harder to view. so if the your not in a shack, the wind forces your back into the wind and the sun is also behind you, you are screwed, then to top it off, you add sunglasses. game over on any sonar. that happens more often than not as far as the wind/sun on the back side.
thats what shacks are for. you get to control your environment instead of mother nature and you don't need to protect your eyes from the harmful uv rays. you get to sit in the wind any way you want to and can have any sonar you want.
sounds like you need a flip over shanty more than a new sonar.
my buddy wears his sunglasses all of the time out side of his shack and has no problem viewing his showdown and he has two of them and he wears very dark sunglasses.
the lx6/7/9 have an adjustable back light brightness. yours works differently being it uses gray scale only and it may be your glasses are not allowing that to get thru them. try another color/tint and save your money on the sonar, unless you want color digital, then i suggest the lx-6 for you.
so if you still have the same pair of glasses next year, try to find what you want on display so you can see if your glasses will let you see your next sonar or not. its too wide of a question to get an accurate answer because of the nature of the glasses available.
i look at my buddies showdown from time to time and i am grateful its not me using it. he has to quit fishing when plankton take over his screen. its all black where the fish are. i would rather use my ice-55 or the lx-7 any day. in fact he is now buying one (lx-6) from sportsman direct because they offer it in 4 payments at 138$ each. and he is the one who noticed the deal with sunglasses on my snow shield cover that slips right off. not really needed, but i want it on to protect the screen more from scratches.
