Chum your hole
« on: Jan 17, 2015, 10:09 AM »
I found a bag of Magic Bait chum I bought last summer, wonder if anyone has used it ice fishing to keep fish at your hole?
My ice fishing looks to be over already this year, Temps for the next month look to be in the 40's and 50's.  And we only had ice for about 3 weeks, and it has been ?able to get out on.

I tried chumming with the chum your talking about last season,I also tried fish food, cornmeal, oats and corn.My results were not astounding, but hey, give it a whirl,it just didn't seem to draw the fish magically for me.I see other fishermen chumming their spots, but I also see them moving to new holes frequently.I do think that if you chum a spot with regularity over a long period, you could devolope a feeding zone for fish, but that's about the only way I think it would pan out for ya!consistantly.........j ust my feeble opinion!

I usually just drop some salmon eggs down before I put one on my hook.

Another one of the many things on the illegal list in MN.

Seems like we have a lot longer list than other States.

dried rolled oats works good too. Takes quite a while for it to sink down so it will attract the fish also.

I think that sometimes the fish fill up on the chum then don't even bother to look at my bait. But who knows anything is worth a try once. Good luck with it.
