688 ICE convertion to open water?
« on: Jun 06, 2015, 10:31 PM »
So I bought a Humminbird 688 ICE combo.

Question: what transducer do I need to convert it to open water? I am looking for the Humminbird part number

Humminbird transducers.com/        has a nice quick ref. area but yours seems to be a rare bird I've been looking but with little results closest I got was Dual Beam Plus ( I'm not positive if this will work for you ) I'm second on calling them maybe even a couple of times.

Isn't the 688 ICE the same as the 688ci HD just with an icedeucer and portable pack?  If so then that points you in the direction of the transducer you need but there are most likely at least a couple choices(through hull/skimmer).  Getting a little off topic but it looks like a nice machine, how do you like it on the ice?
I'm a man, but I can change, If I have to, I guess.

It IS the same head that is used on a boat. I will contact Humminbird for the open water transducer as I am seeing alot of choices.

It is a nice unit! I haven't had it out on the ice because I got it after ice out. I want to use it in a boat and scout/mark structure for ice season.

When I looked at the Hummingbird site for transducers ...my head spun so an Email would be the way Id go . Good to get that unit out on the open water ...figure out the units settings and nuisances. Good luck.

I was thinking about just getting a transducer from a 688 open water unit and plugging it into my unit head. It's the same unit that you would use on a boat I think....Then, come ice season, switch over to the ice transducer and the map info should still be stored in the unit

You would want the XNT 9 20 T.

It is sort of the standard transducer for most all Humminbirds, including the 688ci HD unit.  It is a transom mount, 83/200khz transducer, with temperature reading.
