Best one man shanty...andddddd go!
« on: Jan 10, 2015, 10:26 PM »
looking to get a one man shanty. My 2 man flip down is a pain for me to use when fishing by myself. Any input to what you like the best and why would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks that's what my buddy said to get also. Seems like the best deal considering I have a 100 dollar gift card to cabelas! Is there room for a lantern in one?

I myself like whatever is the lightest and easiest to pull, load in the truck, store, and also keeps me outta the wind and fits all my crap and some beers etc... I dont need a lot of extra room and a comfortable seat. Thats why I use a shappell rover 1.0. Does it feel cramped sometimes? Yes. Do I still catch fish and stay warm? Yes. Do I look at other guys that are lugging around their heavy ass big and roomy shanties and think how glad thats not me? Yes. The current shappell models like the rovers are called fx100's I think. So I vote shappell fx100.

X2 at 37lbs just can't be beat imo.

Here is a link to what I did to mine. A lantern will fit and a lot more. You just have to be a little creative. Lots of pics in this post . Page 2 shows the final result in the sled of the rover. Very hard to capture a good pic of it inside the sled but you get the idea. Currently using this setup and works great.

Bucket with a tarp wrapped around you... Haha but seriously I don't think there is not a lot of difference brand to brand. The biggest difference will be things like thermal and non, swivel seats or bench, stuff like that. In my opinion anyways.

I've got the Rover 1.0 and the wife has a Rover 1.5.  We wouldn't trade them for anything.  If we want to fish together we get in our Shappell 3000.  Plenty of room.

I have the Clam Kenai and its great. Like the other guy said there's not much that changes in the design from brand to brand other than the seat. When flipped up I have an area of about 3.5'x4' of ice. Plenty of room for two holes and a buddy heater.

I've got the scout xl thermal and absolutely love it. Pulls great and the full thermal is the way to go. Little buddy heater keeps it nice and toasty.

I have a Rover 1 too and along with ttype86 have placed numerous pics of our upgrades mine are under rover1 mods if you search for it.
Nice units. I also just bought a Clam Scout but haven't used it yet.
