demo augers
« on: Nov 02, 2005, 06:32 PM »
Hello, Im planning on getting a 10"gas auger this year, and have been looking around at used jiffy's.I have alotta friends with jiffy's so Im goin to get one.On jiffy's website they have demo powerheads and auger for cheap, the powerheads are like $190 for the model 30 and the auger is only like $40. Would this be a good deal, I dont want to have to send it back to the company cause of a problem. should I check into them or jsut get a used auger from a local dealer.Im located in MA.

I got my Jiffy legend last year brand new. It was i think $300+ but im not really sure. My gramp has had hid for over 20 years and the things are bullet proof so i dont think you will have a problem with a used one. I would look at local dealer for used or Uncle Henerys or The Want Ad. Good luck in your search!

I dont think you would have any kind of problem getting a demo direct from Jiffy.....I inquired about one last season, but due to the exchange and shipping costs, passed.....they are used by the inhouse pro's and no doubt are properly handled....Grump

I agree with Grump. If you are getting it from the factory it should be a safe bet.

Just a heads up, Jiffy now has the 76 on their web site for about $160 and the 8" drill to go with it for $40.  Wouldn't you now I saw it just after I paid $300 for mine.  Got the 9" though.

Yeah, factory Demo's are the way to go when buying used. They treat their product properly so it's ready to go when the customers arrive. Nothing a salesman hates more then showing a product and the demo doesnt work.

Yeah, Just wish I saw it before I ordered mine.  I could've lived with the 8" and used the $100 for other gear!

I agree with IceJunky.  I bought two Cannon Electric Downriggers for my boat, that were Demo's, over 10 yrs ago and have never had a problem with either one.

Just some info my wife bought me a model 76 demo with the 9 inch drill, the powerhead looks like a snowmobile ran it over, deep scratches across the powerhead. Also the drill looked like it was hammered off. I started the auger and it wobbled so bad it almost came out of my hands. Upon further inspection I could visibly see the drill was bent, there was at least 3/4 of an inch runout. I took pictures and e-mailed CS and there sending me a new drill, still hasn't got here yet. I don't believe these are demo's but are there so called reconditions. In my opinion don't buy one, with the condition that mine came in no one would be happy.

Just a word of warning

Happy New Year To All

Ya Red eyes this does SUCK
I checked mine out and was shocked! I put a level in front of it lying down and was amazed they let this one out. As I said there sending me a new one and told me I could keep the old one, not that its going to do me any good. As far as the scratches/gouges CS said thats normal so I am going to have to live with it. I hope I get the drill soon I'm dying to get out, I can no longer drill by hand because of an injury.

I think you will find most of them bog a bit right at the bottom of the hole.
Thats the very hardest ice and the toughest part of drilling any hole.
If you have ever drilled thru steel with a power drill you can hear the difference in force needed and motor strain right at break thru and this is also where a bit will often catch and snap off.
Most guys tend to slow a bit at the very end when the most power is necessary and this causes the bog down. Lift the drill, get it spinning and finish the hole under power.

I bought a Stealth 9" Demo,  I it looked pretty much brand new.  one nick or two but no problem.  I was going to get the 8"  but no extra cost for the 9" so I got the 9"

I got my replacement drill from Jiffy, It looks brand new. I'll have to take it out and try it TM. I guess I'll have to live with all the scratches over the powerhead, I still would never buy a DEMO again. I would rather pay a little more and not go through tha hassle again.

Just got back from fishing and had a good day. I hope everyone else did to. My Jiffy demo worked great! I had got the 2hp white lightning 9 inch. It drilled like it was butter and is seems a lot lighter than my buddy's 3hp. I would reccomend this one highly.

Glad to hear your machine is working right..  I hate reccommending things to folks that do not work out..  When I spoke W/ the Jiffy guy,  He told me that some of the units could have some nicks and scratches,  All mine had was a couple of oil drip marks that I cleaned and a little paint chip in the bit and that was it.  A local store in my area has a brand new unit for sale that has more marks on than the 1 I received..

My guys will tell you that I hunt for these deals relentlessly and generally score pretty good..I like saving a buck where I can.

I am going to start my quest for a AQUA VIEW for next year.

Take Care

Brent

I've found that quite often getting some thing cheap is just that, getting some thing that is cheap!  It seems like there's no such thing as a good deal anymore
