any info on ice in the Preston area?
« on: Dec 21, 2014, 10:35 PM »
specifically Twin Lakes or Johnson reservoir. there's not a section for them in the reports ad conditions board, and we're gonna be heading there in 2 weeks for an overnight trip. it'd be a pretty big bummer if there's not safe ice.

Twin is super low completely open. Johnsons water level is coming up, but also completely open. Glendale had a layer of ice on the east end but not even close to fishable. Foster is completely open, as is Lamont.

For sure. The weather has been nuts this year. I'm going to make a big scouting loop today. I'll update on all the lakes around.

thanks for the update. looks like i'll just pick up my 2-rod permit and drown some worms for this year's Twin Lakes trip. just because there's no ice doesn't mean i can't fish. :P

Fished Weston res today for an hour at the end of the day. Caught a 16" bass and hooked and lost a real nice trout at the hole. Ice was around 5-7" depending on how far out from the dam you drilled.

Fished Weston this morning and came up empty. Saw three fish get iced all morning. 6ish inches of ice. -20 below this morning. Johnson has 3 inches of ice. Didn't drill to far out the ice was going crazy when I'd drill thru. Couple more days for me.

just got back from Twin lakes, about 4" to 5" of ice, we caught 6 trout in the 12"-15" range, a decent bass and some dink perch. slow day overall, wish we could've got on them a little bit better, i'm getting kinda desperate for some bluegill.

Does anyone know if the ice at Twin Lakes is still good enough for fishing?  Don't want to make a 100 mile run for nada.  Thanks.

Johnson has good ice. Didn't catch anything in an hour. Glendale was good fishing. Ice is 4-8 inches depending on where your at. Edge is soft. Perch and trout were active. No bluegill. One crappie iced.

Try the Reports and Conditions page, hopefully people will start using it. Thats where I post my info. Not that I have a chance to get out much.
On the ice again, just can't wait to get on the ice again, the life I love is catching fish with my friends, and I can't wait to get on the ice again. "kinda Willie Nelson"
