First Trip of 2015
« on: Jan 03, 2015, 08:06 AM »
Fished north of Dillendeck on Friday. 6 - 8 inches of ice. Water was a bit cloudy. Bite was a little slow but we managed probably 30 or so perch, and caught and released six pike; one good one at around 12#, the others were 3# and under. Wind was brutal and by 2:00 PM we'd had enough. We fished in 7 - 11 FOW. The perch were finicky, but the best bite seemed to be in the deeper water. Didn't seem to matter what you used. All in all not a bad first trip.
Ice fishing is a social activity that may occasionally be interrupted by the catching of fish.

I was out there last Friday as well and you're right about the water being cloudy, couldn't see the bottom in 5 fow.
Did manage a few decent pike which was nice but couldn't seem to zero in on the perch. Based on how many people were out there that seems to be the best ice at the moment. Thinking about heading back out there this Friday depending on the wind, it seemed to pick up as the day went on and made the fishing quite a bit tougher.

It was good to scratch the itch and test drive the new ion.

Worked great. I kept the battery in the battery bag when not cutting holes.

Tried my ion today also. Looks like it's a keeper based on how it worked

I'd suggest getting a backup battery.  I found that I would go through one battery halfway through the day on cold days.  Of course I was punching holes like crazy, but still.  Always nice to have a backup.

Already have one.  I ended up getting the quick attach too, so I can use my 6 and 8 inch Fin Bor hand augers on it without the need for the extension.  Cuts faster than the straight blade design of the IONs.  You just lose the ability to re-drill holes.
