Getting more out of my tip ups
« on: Jan 04, 2015, 03:53 PM »
Hello all, I'm looking for advice on how to get more action on my tip ups.  I usually have three going when I set up.  I use about a three foot mono leader, split shot to get the bait down, fatheads or medium shiners on a plain hook.  I usually stagger my depths.  Any suggestions would be great.  I also go night fishing a lot and don't know if I've ever had a flag. Should I even bother at night?  Thanks!

Not much more to do with them ...other then location location location ....weed edges...and any other transitions ..for night time ... reflective tape works great on the flags .

add a 4 or 5mm bead or a 0 or 1 size spinner blade.  also can add glow bead for at night  goes right down against the knot above hook..
fishing at night for walleye can be productive same for crappie. but the are light biters and unless you have sensitive traps you may miss em. thats about it

oh depending on your bait size the farther from the bait you keep your weight the more it can swim. the closer to your bait the weight on your leader the less room the bait has to swim. good luck.

try fluorocarbon also.

Instead of a split shot I use a trout lure like a Huss or cast master and as it moves it reflects. I tie 1 footleaders with hooks and a barrel, swivel and just put it on the split ring. Saves time if you break off easier than retying.  I do well with those for walleye and perch.

Roadrunner jigheads work great. Hook the fish through lips, As the bait swims around you get flash plus Vibration.  "DEADLY"
10% of the fisherman catch 90% of the fish .....im a 10% are you?

Put a lantern next to the hole your tip-up is in, it will attract the crappies.
