walleye in James

Does anyone target them or catch walleye in James for that matter? Never thought they were in there?

I bass fish the James chain quite a bit and regularly catch pike while doing si but have never caught a walleye there. On crooked, clear, and sylvan we frequently catch walleye while throwing for bass so I would say that if James has walleye it must not be a large population.
Tight lines everyone!

James hasn't been stocked for years upon years with walleye. There's always some successful spawning but not enough to produce any kind of huge numbers. You hear of one getting caught from time to time. A 7lb eye came out of Snow last year while they were gill fishing. Bass guys get them on cranks occasionally too.

About ten years ago I had an underwater camera down and a huge walleye swam by.

But like others, I've never caught one there and they haven't officially stocked it for years.

Never have targeted them, but there is a fair population in the whole chain
There is only one theory about angling in which I have perfect confidence, and this is that the two words, least appropriate to any statement, about it, are the words "always" and "never."

DNR done a creel test there that I read some years ago, maybe 5or 6. They were very surprised to find a good population of walleye. I'm thinking it was 7-10 per acre. Average size was 5 lbs. with some 7 lbs. I tried looking for the report with no luck.

last written stocking data, i have, is "04".  they stocked almost 123,000 fingerlings in james. also in "04" 48,000 released in jimmerson. bound to be some toads in there somewhere.
real fishermen don't ask "where you catch those"

It's a secret spot. I will say I caught it on a tip up. Have not been up there yet this year because unsure if there is enough ice to get out there.

I mounted one for Tri-State B &T that was speared in Little Otter. It was confiscated by a conservation officer by a kid whose dad made him turn himself in. At least that is what I as told.

IIRR the fish was 12 pounds.

I've done at least one out of James at 8 pounds.
I live in the midwest now but have fond memories of fishing in New England as a kid.
