I was thinking 2 inch foam board with tin over it would make it float across the snow.
Keep your stick on the ice we are all in this together.

I tried that..... then went to the ski style setup.... the problem is when you get all the weight from your gear and accessories..... it feels like your pulling a dead horse. ..

What are the black "T" shaped things in the corners in the underside picture?
Great idea!

I built the base 70"X70" then marked the inner tie down strap grommets of the canvas to the plywood. I installed blind nuts in the areas I marked in the plywood and I have 1/4-20 thumbscrews that are bigger than the grommet holes to attach canvas to base. The fit is reasonably tight and it keeps me from chasing the shack across the lake should the wind come up. I am considering a 3rd ski to help it get around even better on large bodes of water.

They are a composite T handle that serve a couple purposes. On my first try at this base I was fishing a heavy snow scenario and I got home to find I had broke a 1"X4" that attached to my inner ski. I assumed it was a poor lumber selection and replaced it with a premium board. The next time out it did the same thing in the same spot, this time I spotted the problem. When opening the base I was compacting snow between the 2 1"X4" boards which was enough to break even premium lumber. So I found these T handles on-line and cut the 1"X4" down (which you can see in the picture) and I use the T handles as a way to help support the weight and keep undue stress off the piano hinge. By placing the T handles on the top side of the sled I can also use them as a tie down point for my cargo netting
