I use 12 pound test fluoro line I use about a 6-7' leader with no weight and fish about 5-10' under the ice ice caught a lot of nice lakers that way

6 or 8 lb fluoro, forget which but my leaders are 10 feet long.

I tie a barrel swivel to my squid line run six feet of 12# fireline, add another barrel swivel and six more feet of fireline .Then a 8 inch fireline leader with a double hook for lacing(attached w/ball bearing snap swivel. These swivels help prevent line twist when a lot of line has been put or run out.

As for #'s do you think 12# is necessary as considering spooking fish?  Feel like 6# would be to light for lakers.  Maybe 8 or 10?

I'm using fireline which is much thinner in diameter than mono.

If I'm jigging, I like 6lb fireline main line with a 10lb flouro leader, tipups 8-12lb flouro depending on the size lake trout I am targeting.

I've never known Lakers to be line shy.  Other trout species and salmon are a different story.  I wouldn't hesitate to use 12lb when targeting Lakers.

Ice fishing is a social activity that may occasionally be interrupted by the catching of fish.

I've never had a problem with my set-up catching salmon.Lot of 5# + fish over the years, size of bait seems to play a bigger role in landing salmon than your line. They don't have big mouths and don't like big bait IMHO.
