tip-up line brand recommendation?
« on: Dec 21, 2014, 12:58 PM »
hey all

i just bought a few frabill pro-thermal tip ups (the round orange ones). does anyone have recommendations on which line to get for them? i was thinking to buy a large spool of 25-30lb line from one of the sponsors up top. i'll be using these traps up on champlain in a few weeks, so something that can handle a pike would be good. thanks!

I use Woodstock from The Anglers Connection. I have never had an issue with it for the 8yrs I've been using it.

I'm cheap.  I use kite line.

http://www.kitebuilder.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/30_192/products_id/1160?osCsid=0e41b224531301253c45c343f3440e3d

Be careful ordering from this company. I placed and order and go no confirmation, and card was charged. Couple weeks of phonecalls and emails amd finally was told the store was shut down and system should not have accepted order. Eventually refunded
Went through this company for a couple dollars more but no hassel

Polar ice braided ice line by HT. Sand color 30lb test, barel swivel to heavy mono leader and hook. Careful with that type of trap, they are hard to see when you get snow on the ice. Snow machines run over them my Friend retired them.

I'm a big fan of Woodstock line. Made here in Putnam, CT. Been using it for years and recently bought a few more spools for my back up tip ups.

I like the wax coated stuff. Keeps the water out of the line so it doesnt freeze. Makes it much easier managing the line on the ice when you have a fish take a run or when re-spooling afterwards.

The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad.
