GPS for Android?
« on: Nov 30, 2014, 10:02 PM »
Just wondering if anyone knows of a good and easy to use GPS app for my android phone. I've looked at Garmin and they are quite spendy, not to mention the use of ANOTHER electronic device! There are several options on Play Store but I haven't found one that will save or store hot spots.
When there is ice on the lakes, I never make employee of the month!

Fishing related? Fishidy or navionics - both save waypoints

General GPS? Uh Goggle Maps can save way points or google earth mobile. Custom Maps is a good one to use for overlays.

Navionics, $ 14.99 download.  Works great on my LG Android.    Get the version with SonarCharts, much more detail .

Google Navionics and check out their WebApp which will let you see the features on your desktop machine before you buy.

I too use navionics with my nexus 7. It has been a great app and the tablet saves the battery on my phone.

My phone gets drained fast using the apps, and I also have issues using using my phone in the elements.

For those reasons I stick with a hand held. Others seem to do well just using their phones, Good luck!

I just use my navionics app on land and water. An app is only going to work as good as your phones gps receiver so keep that in mind. I also have gps status app for when I need specifics.

Navionics.

Turn GPS on.  Find spot, close Navionics and turn GPS off.

Unless you have a way to continually charge your smart phone while fishing.

Get the navionics app. Best $15 (usa & canada version) I've spent in my entire life. If you made me choose between that app and a power auger I'd take the app and go dig my hole in the RIGHT spot with a dull spoon

Google solar phone charger... they can be real cheap and work well.
It is MY responsibility to make sure my children can enjoy fishing years from now. Make sure your kids can fish.  If you see something ILLEGAL Contact the Massachusetts Environmental Police Radio Room at 1-800-632-8075 at any hour of the day. They might show up if there is enough staff working.

I completely agree with the navionics! It's like a handheld gps with the benefit of lake topography AND you can update to see other peoples waypoints if they upload them!!! Worth every penny! ;D
Live to fish.
