How to use a skimmer transducer for ice fishing

Simply loop and zip tie the cable. The transducer will hang straight and level in the hole every time.

And, for those that have a Lowrance transducer, hm, back to the drawing board.

Great thinking there. I did have the Lowrance type when I had my Eagle Fish Finder. I used a Stick I mounted it onto and then a hook on the top of the stick so it didn't fall in.

Lowrance and the old eagles need a bigger loop, run the zip tie through the mounting hole just like a 'bird. Then zip tie the loop to the run going up just like above. If I had my old Eagle transducer I'd take a picture...knew I should have kept that thing lol

With the Lowrance type on a stick you can rotate the transducer and look sideways and figure out where you want to drill your next hole.  Works like a charm.

Here is the trick that will solve all your Skimmer transducer problems, if you choose to use them instead of a Ice Ducer..

Buy 5 feet of PVC pipe and 1-T. Cut two 12 inch piece and slide them in each side of the T and then add 3 feet of PVC pipe out the bottom and drill a hole  in the bottom of the PVC and run the bolt from your transducer thru it tigten the nut slightly on the other side "Wahla" ready made transducer stand. Then all you have to do when you get to the lake is mess with the transducer moving it slightly back and forth till you get it parallel in the hole- Yes it needs to be straight up and down or it wont mark properly- That is what most guys problems are using skimmer transducers on hard water..

I have built two of the set- ups and they work slick!!! And when you are done fishing for the day you can pull all the pieces apart and put them in a small bag or whatever so they dont take up so much room and head home!!

Cost: $5.00 at the most..

Happy fishing!!!

Anyone know what happened to the pic I posted and the responses to it in this thread.  Its a simple fix and might be of use to those who haven't seen it.
