Alaskanate,
The link below will take you to the statwide regs, scroll down till you see "Ice fishing gear", you should also look at the rules for burbot if you are fishing for them. The southcentral regs will also have info on regional regs for your area. When using tip-ups make sure they are closely attended, I take that to mean not out of sight. Hope it helps, good luck.

Nate,

Somewhere in the regs, I think SC section, theres a section on northern pike with a list of "infested" lakes that you can use 5 tip ups on.  You may already know this thought I'd mention it.

Just read it in a print copy of the fishing regs...

FYI for any one else.

Quote
In the following lakes, sport fishing thought the ice for northern pike is allowed using 5 lines, Provided that: 1 standard ice fishing gear is used, 2 the fishing gear is closely attended, and 3 all other species of fish caught  are released immediately.

Here are the lakes:

Northern Cook Inlet: Figure Eight, Sucker, Flathorn, Lower Vern, Upper Vern, Lock-wood, Whiskey, Hewitt, Donkey, Threemile/Tukhallah, Trapper, Trail, Neil, and Kroto lakes, No Name/Cabin lake, and lakes of the Nancy Lake Recreation Area. Except for Nancy Lake it’s self!

Kenai Peninsula: Mackey Lakes, Tote Road Lakes, and Derks, Sevena, Cisca, and Union lakes

Glad you found the list of lakes Nate.  An interesting note, all of the lakes listed have pike that were "introduced illegally" and in many of the lakes pike have completely wiped out the native rainbow's.  F&G would very much like all the pike in those lakes killed and recommend that you keep small ones for eating-so there are more big ones to eat the small pike.  The pike in these some of these lakes have access to salmon rearing grounds and are severely impacting the salmon fishery.

F&G has a good section on their web site on northerns in SC.

Looks like I need to plan a trip to the valley to help wipe out the pike. Been thinking about a trip to Red Shirt or Lynx Lakes, anyone know how much snow there is.

I know last weekend some of the area's were closed, still might be kind of dicey.  A call to D&R on friday would be your best bet.

Look forward to some pic's of your catch if ya go ;)

As of this weekend the Nancy Lake State Rec. Area (Redshirt) was closed - not enough snow.
Also you can take machines back to Flathorn only if using the gasline and seismic trail/Iditarod trail, but not all the way back to Figure 8.

There's just not enough snow out here to ride machines back.

I'm pretty sure that driving a road vehicle back to any of those lakes would be frowned upon by ADFG.  I have hunted out in the Susitna hay flats where the trial to Flathorn begins.  In order to use the trial you must use a snowmachine/ATV with a minimum of 12 inches of frozen ground and 12 inches of snow cover.  You could probably get a small truck out there now since the snow is virtually gone, but you better be ready to pay a fine.  Some of the Nancy Lake rec area lakes are accessible by car/truck, but I'm not sure how the pike fishing is there since I never tried.

I'm gonna head out to Fire Lake on Friday to try for 'bows and pike.  I should be out there around 9 or 10 am if you care to join us.

Well I went to fire lake today with a couple of buddies and we iced about 14 nice meaty rainbows.  Three were 20 inchers about 2 pounds each.  Great color and good fighters.  The rest were between 14 and 17 inches.  I was amazed at how many people were out there today.  Great day out- good weather and steady action.

I pulled the quote off of the alaska outdoor journal webpage

Quote
ANGLER:  willphish4food
TRIP DATE:  12/21
REGION:  Matsu Valley
WATER:  Pt. McKenzie access
SPECIES:  Pike

REPORT: Hi,

This isn't a fishing report, just a clarification. I have spoken with the local fish cops (AK troopers wildlife enforcement division, Palmer, and Big Lake offices) regarding the exact rule for driving to Figure 8 Lake. The Chef is right. You can drive anything that will get you into Flathorn Lake, on any snow conditions, as long as you stay on the gas pipeline trail.. I did not ask about the Iditarod. This is a traditional access to private properties on that lake, and can't be barred because of that. Figure 8 falls under separate rules. The route there is just for fishing, and crosses refuge land. There must be 12 inches of snow under your track to be able to get in there, legally. Last year they were saying it was a personal judgement call, if it looked like there was 12". This year they are much more specific. 12"... until then, fish Flathorn, and listen to your conscience!

Tight lines!

So that sounds like I could drive to flathorn if there is no snow. But stay away from figure 8 lake unless there is 12 inches of snow (i knew that part) I just noticed that it doesnt say that if there is 12+ inches of snow you have to have a snowmobile to get to Figure 8, wonder if i could dive to that lake with 12+ inches of snow?
