Smitty Wheels?
« on: Feb 02, 2014, 03:05 PM »
Got stuck parking on the wrong side of a paved road in a cleared gravel parking area the other day. My sled felt like an elephant jumped in it. I made it across to snow to get on in the morning when I was fresh but at the end of the day after pulling off the ice then up the hill to the road I just couldn't do it. It felt like it was nailed down. Hauled gear to the truck then dragged the empty sled/shelter over.

This is my first pass at not having to do this again. 4 bushings and 4 casters.

Drilled through with a 31/64 drill to fit the bushing snug and tapped them in with a hard rubber mallet.

the casters are just sitting in the bushings.

On pavement its great. On uneven ground they fall out easily. But if I shim them when I put them in with a couple cut offs of 12 lb braid ice line they stick in tight enough and come back out easily. I thought putting them under the supports would be stronger. If I moved them out of the box aluminum and just put them through the skis in the open I could drill them and just pin them when needed.

this is what I did for wheels. I only used 2 and just lift the front with my tow rope.

and this is how I store them.
