Haven't been to the Victoria strip pits, but Lake Storey in Galesburg was around a foot thick.  Good luck in the pits.  I've always wanted to get down there and fish them.

Thx harpenter for the info. The pits are nice in victoria. There is a bait shop in town and they may have some info on public pits.

The bait shop in town is called the depot. Its number is 309-879-2401. From past experiences I'm not sure how much stock I would put into what they tell you there. We had a guy tell us the crappies were so big they were scaring the guys when they came out of the hole! He said they were all 12-14". We went and fish the hotspot and caught a lot of crappies! I'm pretty sure if we put 3 of them end to end we would of had 1 12" crappie! I have fished Snakeden and caught some really nice crappies but it does not open till the 1st of Feb.
 Good luck and be safe!

I know the drill about some people not wanting to disclose their spots :) but I really want to go down there after Feb 1st and try it.  Does anyone know if I should concentrate on the main lake or venture to some of the other strip pits?

All of snake den is closed. There are other public lakes around Victoria that don't close

Yes I made it out. Had 10 plus inches of ice. Fishing was a bit slow but the bite picked up right before dark on Saturday 1-18-14 but ended up with 25 bullgills and 14 small bass throw backs but it was still fun!!!
Going to try again this weekend and see how it goes.
