Mousees?
« on: Jan 09, 2014, 03:59 PM »
Has anyone used Mousees (Mousies)?
I've never seen them available here in MT but I see them for sale online.  I've been thinking about ordering some but even a small order costs $17 to ship

I thought the same thing a few years back and ordered some just to try something different than the norm. They are definitely different looking. ... they didn't work any better than anything else we had been using and they don't hold up very well. About 10-15% of them were dead upon arrival and the rest quickly followed suite.

Not worth the money IMO. Buy some new jigs or gas instead.

Bradys in missoula used to carry them. Crane fly larvae I believe.

would have to agree that they don't out produce maggots or waxies , and are not very hearty. very different looking than the other baits you'll definitely know why there called mousies.

Best ice fishing bait there is, sometimes tough to find, stays on the hook almost as good as perch eyes and much better than waxworms. been using them for years, will stay good in your beer fridge all season.
keep punch'en holes till ya find'em

I have bought them off of eBay a couple of times now. They ship really fast and show up very healthy.  I'm not quite sure why I thought I needed three hundred of the little groders this year but I just checked them and they are holding up great.  But still... I need to get out more and use them up!! Ordered dec 9, shipped dec 10, delivered dec 13.

they are the larva of the drone fly which looks like a cross between a bee and house fly.
safe ice, tight lines and god bless!

Something to keep in mind. We typically pick our bait up at Petco. Mealworms, waxies, etc... you can get 100 big mealworms for about $5, quite a bit cheaper than $2 a dozen. They'll keep all winter in the fridge as well.

I have landed lots of 10" plus in all my years of fishing ...
miss fresh gills for dinner !!
My father in law feeds the hole family with summertime gills. He can't take the cold water fishing much anymore...
