Go to Mardens Now
« on: Dec 03, 2005, 01:38 PM »
I stopped into mardens in lewiston today.  They have about ten Frabil portable ice shacks that come in their own sled and pop up.  Price was 199 not bad.  They also have 1/2 plywood sheets for $14 sheet which is o.k. too for the side walls or the end pieces of a tarp shack.

Did they have very many of them in stock Scott?  Do you know if they were one man models or bigger?  Sounds like a pretty good price.  I was going to stop at Mardens in Lewiston today, but got fed up with the traffic in town and aborted the mission... may have to take a trip in tomorrow if you think they will have any left.
Are you SURE it's safe to walk on? Looks questionable to me!

They do seem to be going quick. I called the Waterville store on Tuesday night and they only had 2 left(Gamefisher saw 10 of um on 11/30/05). The Gray store had one left and it's now sitting in my garage. They are the Frabill "Ice Chaser 200". It's the economy version of the Ranger XLTwin. Same sled (same hight as a Jet SLed but twice as wide and a few inches longer....just fits in the Jeep ;D), same frame, same "tent". The economy part of the deal is that it doesn't come with the seat set up like the Ranger. The seat frame / seats can be retrofitted at any time.  Not sure about the ones at the other stores but mine is a 2003/2004 left over. Now, I'm still not sure if the tent material is the same as the 2004/2005 model. It's Ice Armor but I "heard" that Frabill had made a slight change to the Ice Armor for the newer sleds. Gave Frabill a buzz yesterday but couldn't get through to a human. Just curious about the material. Anyway, I'll still keep it as $200 seems to be a OK price for the unit. Hey, it might not be the Otter of my dreams but it's a step in the protection direction. Sled could use some runners as the material is quite thin. Should be able to retrofit the Jet Sled tow bar to it......Looks like all I need it SOME FREAKING ICE!  I'd be interested in any +/- comments and/or suggestions regarding this unit.

I stopped in a took a look at them today (Sunday) and they had 5 or 6 left.  After looking it over carefully, I decided not to get one, and think I'm going to go one more year in my home built.  Good luck with the one you bought though, it seemed like a heck of a good price.  Let us know how it works out.

just as an update I stopped into Mardens today in Leweston and they still have 8 left. Just in case anyone was wondering. Very nice shacks and if I had the money I would have bought one in a heartbeat.

TH: I think you've got a great looking portable. I'd be hard pressed to trade that thing in for any portable shanty on the market.

there is a great set of plans to make a flpover style portable in this months issue of On the Water magazine. it uses a jetsled as a base so looks its pretty lightweight.

Hey, thanks for the headsup.

I was in Ellsworth Mardens the other day and they had none.

Went to the Calais Mardens (The one closer to Canada, not the furniture Mardens.) today and they had some.  Decided to take the plunge and get one.  They still had 3 left in the box and the floor model after I bought mine.

These were also the Frabill Ice Chaser 200.  Same price of $199.99.  My instructions looked like it was a 2005 model.

Now can anyone tell me where to get a cover for it the cheapest????  Frabill wants $50 plus $8 shipping, is there anywhere that will beat that price?

Thanks
