Yeah, from the news, it looks like some bad things have already happened to some good guys already this season. Take your time and take yer precautions. Live to fish another day. BTW also see that video on ice servival here. Good information but even more important not to get into that situation...

You already have ice in NH? I live in S. Maine, and the ice is just starting to form on the bigger lakes, but it's supposed to get warmer over the weekend.  It's kinda funny to hear all these people complaining about the cold when us ice anglers are wishing for it!  Still have 3 weeks before most of the lakes are open to ice fishing anyway.
Are you SURE it's safe to walk on? Looks questionable to me!

I'm in the Lakes Region of NH.  The big lakes are still wide open but some of the smaller ponds are covered.  Forecast calls for up to a foot of snow here today, but don’t let the blanket of white fool ya.  I just checked a small pond that I felt *might* be OK for this weekend and there was only a couple of inches of ice, and that was just a few yards from shore.  I heard cracks spread with the first whack of the spud and it only tool a few more half hearted whacks to go through...  I don't want to try out the new Fish Trap THAT bad... I can wait.

Smart man!  The majority of the lakes in S. Maine are closed until Jan 31 or to the taking of salmon, trout, togue and bass.  IMO that doesn't leave much to fish for, and certainly nothing I'd want to risk my life over!

I was on eight inches the night before last. Got to try my new flipover and I like it. We had a week long cold front here and I watched the fish on my VEX and they would come to the bait but wouldn't get serious. A warm front is coming for the weekend which will help the fishing. The problem around here is that warm fronts often are very windy (30 mph).
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.
