Additional Advice for 2006 IS Tourney
« on: Dec 11, 2005, 12:34 PM »
Looks like there's many new entrants in the IS tourney this year.  In addition to what's already in the rules, here's some extra suggestions:

1. Print multiple copies of the Tourney cards and place one in your pocket and others somewhere else with your stuff.  I don't know how may times I read last year " I caught the big fish but forgot my tourney card."

2.Laminate them. If you don't they will blow away (believe me) or get soggy.

3. Extra camera batteries (no explanation needed)

4. Bring two measuring devices (I actually dropped one down the hole last year as I was about to measeure up a fish)

5. If you are a catch and release guy like me, keep your tape, camera and IS card with you and keep your fish in the hole (with a lip device) while you are getting the tape out. Prevents gill burn on cold days.

6. If you keep your fish make sure you get a shot of it while it's still kicking and not frozen solid. You wouldn't want to be accused (or disqualified)  of catching and freezing a fish now and taking his picture a month from now. (I can't imagine any IS member doing that ::))

7. Don't be surprised if you get a PM from Doug because you didn't get a great shot of the measuring tape. Don't get mad at him, he spends a lot of time analyzing the pics and he does the best he can with our crummy picture taking. Give the poor man some time to fish.

8..and most important, remember it's all in good fun and it's FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Luck to all. I look forward to everyone's entries this season

Bartman.

I put mine right in my license slot in my wallet when I am heading out for an icefishing trip.

And the great part of this tourney is; you have the ability to let the fighter free!

The most important points by far. Just remember #8 and if you get a #7 you'll just closer attention to your pictures, Take several different ones, and always display your ruler one at the better quality possible. Even with my little 2.0 megapixel 'oldy' cam it can be done. #1-a very excellent point, don't get caught with your pants down  ;) And #5 another great point, had to do that last year to get a few double and trible tip-up, back to back, monsters.  ;D

 Good Luck to all, and I can't wait to see some of the entries this year.   Have fun and remember, IT's FREE!  :woot: Thanks to our good friends from IS and Lonewolf (Doug) the #1 guy for getting all sorts of great sponser goodies, and the  :flex: hard work in making it all fair for all.

I too want to thank the IS team for putting another tourney together this year as I had a lot of fun checking out all the nice fish last year. Even tho I didn't enter anything still fun to see what everybody is getting around the country. The bar is set pretty high in the walleye and pike catagory hope this doesn't discourage people from entering ones a little less than the minimum's. Well good luck everybody  :)

Great post Bartman 44.
Don't forget it is a photo only contest so if you can't read your measuring tape or is blocked out, it probably will be disqualified. Take lots of pics directly above fish with all of fish showing. That way later on you can pick the ones that best fits the regulations.

Looking forward to another great Tourney and would hate to see someones monster disqualified. Good luck to everyone and post all fish even if 2 inches, you will still get in on weekly drawings ;D

I printed 12 cards off. Put some in my fishing box, taped one in plastic bag to the bottom of my 5 gallon bucket,
also put a few in my camera bag along with my tape measure. Some will fly away or get left behind :'(

PS: Burbot are extremely hard to measure and let go, so you can do as Grump does and whack them with a 2X4 first, then fillet and keep.  :P
