Guide Services for Lake of the Woods
« on: Dec 21, 2013, 11:09 AM »
I want to plan a trip to lake of the woods in 2015, I have been doing some research on Guides there but am wondering if anyone here could recommend any.  I live in NY and am looking for a solid trip.  Thanks for any info.

Damn, 2015?  Long wait that's for sure. I'm going up there next month for a couple days out of izzys resort in warroad. I will ask around when I'm there and report back toys. Going up the January 17th to the 19th, so you will have to wait til than. Not that that matter too much since your going to be waiting til 2015 to go.

Just kinda came up with idea recently and it will literally take me a year of planning. Next week will be 2014 so basically a year from then. I want to check references and do my work making sure to get a solid guide. There are a lot of scams out there.  I have been on 2 different hunts.  First hunt was awesome, second hunt was a scam, will never go anywhere or do anything without checking references again. That is why I am asking here, if people here know of reputable guides for LOW.

Oh my gosh, why did I not think of him in the first place. I watch all of his videos online actually and he looks like an excellent guide. He looks a lot like zack  galifianakis from the movie hangover, aka Alan . Yes, look up his videos for sure and give him a call. I would call him myself but I'm going up with a bunch of people who already booked at some other resort I listed above. But this guy has a lot of YouTube videos of his customers and looks like he's always putting them on the fish. Check him out

All the resorts up there have great guides.  I know I'll miss some and I apologize but check out these resorts:  Wigwam, River Bend, Adrians, Ballards, Wheelers Point, Sportsmans, Cyrus.  You'll love it!

Jason Taggart of Hard Water Adventures is great guide and knows the lake.  I went out with him when I was thinking of getting a Snobear.  He will find you fish and has a cabin right on the lake.  Also had permanents set up on hot bites.  Just google HardWaterAdventures lake of the woods, Jasn Taggart..

Oh and if you want to target big crappies in Ontario(LOW) there is a guide Dave Winters that guides out of Sportsmans Lodge in the summer that guides out of the NorthWest Angle in the winter specializes in chasing BIG Crappies.  U would need a border crossing permit to do that..as well as ontario license. For his phone number pm me.

Frank Walsh at Walsh's Bay Camp on Oak Island.  Top notch fishing and the opportunity to fish Canadian waters as well.  http://www.baystorecamp.com/ice-fishing/

Arnesen's is top-shelf -- will be making another run from Pittsburgh, PA out to stay with the Rocky Point folks on January 15th.  We go out for 8 days -- a day of travel out and one back -- then six fishing days in the middle.  I suggest planning out some time in sleepers and then some ashore too.  We like to arrive early Thursday and fish from a day hut -- then head to a sleeper on Friday through Sunday as that's the super busy time with the day huts.  Then we fish the day huts from Monday through Wednesday.  A long trip from Pittsburgh -- but definitely worth the time and money!

I'll keep ice fishing until hell freezes over -- and I'll drop a line in there too!
